How to Protect Yourself Against Cybercrime
It’s no secret that cybercrime is on the rise. In fact, it’s one of the fastest-growing crimes in America today. Businesses are being targeted more and more every day by hackers who are looking for a quick payoff.
What you may not know is what steps to take to protect yourself against these types of attacks. In a recent interview with CBS 8, the founder of Vanasek Insurance, Antonette Vanasek, shares some tips on how to protect yourself against cybercrime.
Vanasek starts with the basics. “It’s just like any other insurance product,” she says. The first step is to buy coverage, which Vanasek describes as similar to homeowners’ and renters’ insurance.
“If you’re waking up in the morning and your email is not working, or you can’t access all of your data, that’s when it becomes a real issue,” Vanasek says.
Vanasek says cybersecurity insurance can help pay for cybersecurity audits, cybersecurity software, consultants, and other services that may be necessary after a breach.
But it’s not just businesses that need cybersecurity insurance. “All these things are going on in the consumer world as well,” Vanasek explains. “It’s not just businesses. It’s anybody, including the end-users.”
Vanasek says cybersecurity insurance is only one part of a cybersecurity plan. A combination of cybersecurity insurance, technology and awareness can help protect yourself against cybercrime.
